Why do we need our own building?  Doesn’t the Bible say God does not dwell in temples made by the hands of men, that heaven is His throne and the earth His footstool?

What about the poor?  Surely the enormous amount of money spent on buildings and land could be used to meet the needs of many in our region?

These, and others, are some of the questions we have had to grapple with as we have embarked on a faith journey towards obtaining our own building.

Firstly, we do not believe a building is essential for housing the presence of the Lord.  For sure, God does not live in buildings of brick, steel and concrete.  He now lives in us!  The Church is made up of people who are being built together for a dwelling place of God by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 2:22).

Secondly, we do want to be generous people when it comes to reaching out to the poor.  Jesus said we would always have the poor with us, and we definitely do not want to neglect giving to the poor in order to spend everything on an elaborate building.  We want to see both incorporated in the life of the Church.

Having said that, the main reason we are embarking on a building project is because we believe God has told us to do so.  We have had numerous prophetic words from people we trust, all confirming what we ourselves have sensed in God – that we should trust Him for our own building.  (At the moment we meet in a school hall which we rent for Sunday and other meetings).  As a church we do own a house that is used for offices and smaller group meetings.  But God has spoken to us for a while about enlarging the place of our tent and not holding back (Isaiah 54:2).  We believe having our own building is part of the “enlarging”.  Therefore, we want to obey God’s word to us.

With this project in mind, we look to God and see His greatness, His glory, His generosity.  He is able to do infinitely more than we ask or think!  The task seems great, almost overwhelming, but with God all things are possible.  May the bigness, the greatness and magnificence of our God continue to be seen as we trust Him in this project.

We look to the future and realise the inheritance of the next generation requires the hard work and willing sacrifice of this generation.  We are paving the way for the next generation, and those after them, to have their own facility to use for the glory of God.

We look at our city and nation right now and know the Church is the only hope.  As Oxygen Life we always want to be the salt of the earth, a light to the world, a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden.  In order to do this we need a facility where many can come and hear the good news of Jesus Christ, where people can worship together, where youth and events can be held, and where people can be trained up to go out and make a difference everywhere.  We envision this facility as being a resource centre for many, in order that the multi-faceted wisdom of God be shown in all the world.

We are not waiting until we have land or a building before giving.  The Building Fund has been going for a while now and continues to climb steadily every month.  God is going to do this through us; through our giving.  He supplies seed to sow and multiplies it.  He is able to make all grace abound, that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, we may abound in every good work (2 Corinthians 9:8).  To Him be the glory!
